Queen Esther is a character in VeggieTales. She is the main character for the episode Esther... The Girl Who Became Queen. Esther lives in Persia with her cousin Mordecai, where she was picked to be the new queen for King Xerxes. As queen she found out that the King's right hand man Haman was planning to banish Mordecai's family. However, Haman did not know Queen Esther was related to Mordecai. Esther soon told this to the King and saved her family, Haman being banished instead.
Appearance
Queen Esther is a green scallion. She has brown hair, unique black eyes with brown irises, a small nose and pink lips. At the beginning of the film she wears a raggedy brown dress. As queen she wears a gold jeweled crown, a gold neck collar, and a pink dress.
Production
For the story, the production team needed to make a new VeggieTales character. Originally, she was a chili pepper, then a scallion. Concept artist Joe Sapulich said he didn't want to exaggerate her features to much. Soon they settled on a scallion model, her hairstyle being inspired by Joe's daughter Sarah. However, the complicated hair was a nightmare for the animators, not reacting the same with her head movements, which is why she only appeared in one episode.
